Hemorrhoids –The Pathology
The anatomical term "hemorrhoids" technically refers to “Cushions of tissue filled with blood vessels at the junction of the rectum and the anus”.
Hemorrhoids are common. It is estimated that approximately one half of the population have had this condition by the age of 50, and that 50% to 85% of the world's population will be affected by hemorrhoids at some time in their life. Annually, about 10% to 20% of patients with symptomatic hemorrhoids require surgery.
There are two methods available for the treatment of hemorrhoids with our products:
1) HeLPTM Hemorrhoid Laser Procedure for 2-3 degree hemorrhoids
HeLP™ is the least invasive of surgical procedures for hemorrhoidal dearterialization for curing hemorrhoids. HeLP™ uses an integral procedure kit specially designed by biolitec to achieve a treatment that is fast, painless, and above all, simple and reproducible by the surgeon.
This technology uses a unique Doppler method for detection of the feeding arteries. These are sealed by laser. A proctoscope is used in order to keep the exact position.
Because the surgeon works in the painless / pain-free area in the anal canal, the patient usually does not require anesthesia. Due to the changed situation on supply and pressure the hemorrhoids stop bleeding and form back within the next few weeks.
2) LHP (Laser hemorrhoidoplasty)
This approach is used for advanced hemorrhoids under appropriate anesthesia. The energy of the laser is inserted centrally through a radial emitting fiber into the hemorrhoidal node.
The node shrinks immediately, new connective tissue is indicated and the natural anatomy is restored under maximum preservation of the mucosa and the anoderm.
These three principles are being observed:
- Preservation of the anoderm
- Reduction of the hemorrhoidal cushions without affecting the continence
- Restoration of the natural anatomical structure
HeLP™ Platform is comprised of Ceralas laser 980nm, including high frequency Doppler equipment (20 MHz) for assessment of hemorrhoidal artery position and a specially designed HeLP™ Procedure kit including everything necessary for carrying out the treatment simply and effectively.
For LHP a radial fiber is used whose special directional characteristics allow volume shrinkage of the node.
